Adcote School for Girls
Adcote School For Girls, girls boarding schoolAdcote School’s traditional excellence
Adcote School for Girls (4–18 years) is a unique, vibrant, independent school, near Shrewsbury. It is arguably one of the finest-looking schools in Shropshire. The Grade I listed building is approached by a magnificent sweeping drive, which cuts through swathes of corn, reminding us just how rural and beautiful this county is.

At Adcote we believe passionately in the importance of the individual. We also believe that every child has the ability to excel in at least one particular area and that it is our job to discover and nurture these talents. Every girl at Adcote, when she leaves the School, should feel she has achieved all she can both academically and intellectually. Adcote produces confident, enquiring and well-rounded young women who are equipped to
play full and constructive roles in an ever-changing society.

Despite its imposing exterior, Adcote School is proud of its welcoming, friendly and unpretentious reputation. The School’s size means that the children, staff and parents really get to know each other. There is a tangible sense of community, creating a warm and enabling atmosphere.

We have an outstanding English as a foreign language (EFL) department providing specialist academic and pastoral support to all our international pupils as required. It is a well-established EFL unit run by experienced and highly qualified staff. All students are tested and a personal programme is designed for each student’s individual needs. Tuition is either individual or in small groups. The EFL staff also offer support and advice to students coping with integration into British boarding school life. Specialist staff provide English as an additional language (EAL) and EFL tuition. EFL is provided three times a week within the curriculum at no additional charge. More intensive English language tuition is available with the EAL department.

Boarding at Adcote
Our aim is to provide a safe and homely environment that enables each girl in our care to become a self-sufficient and independent young woman, fully  equipped to face the challenges of life in the 21st century. The boarding team provide support for the girls in their academic work and encourage involvement in extracurricular activities.

Mission statement
Adcote is a non-selective school for girls which strives to:
• foster a caring environment and family atmosphere, leading to personal pupil happiness  and good relationships between all members of the School community, including parents.
• deliver successful educational achievements through  good teaching, leading to our girls meeting or exceeding individual academic expectations.
• nurture girls’ individual talents within small classes and safe, secure surroundings, enabling them to realise their full potential.
• provide a broad range of extracurricular activities and events in order to offer further opportunities for pupil excellence, enthusiasm and experience.

An individual education for life.

Entrance

Entrance is by way of interview, assessment and report from current school. Scholarships are awarded annually and based upon either academic excellence or promising abilities in any area. Examinations for Scholarships are usually sat in the Spring Term. Bursaries are also available. Please contact us for further details.

Admissions

Although Adcote is an open entry school, we ask all prospective pupils to spend an acquaintance day with us. They spend the day with the girls in the year group that they will enter, and find time to take tests in arithmetic, comprehension, reading and writing. Prospective boarders are invited to stay the night, if their parents wish. There will also be time to meet the Headteacher, who will require a report from your daughter's current school. Indeed, good liaison between schools at this stage can be very advantageous to prospective pupils.

Bursaries

For those who seek entry for their daughters to Adcote, but who may not be in the position to pay full fees, Adcote has resources to help families in need. Application is through the Bursar's Form, which is a simple means test; resources are allocated on merit. Please apply to the Bursar or the Headteacher's secretary for the forms.

Transport

There is a school minibus service for those travelling daily from Shrewsbury, Wem and Telford areas. Parents can be assisted in making arrangements for boarders at the start and end of term if necessary. A school minibus usually collects girls from major airports and overseas boarders are assisted with arrangements for flights.
