
Alexanders International School (AIS) is a founder member of the SKOLA Group of Schools established over 30 years ago and comprising five British Council-accredited centres. AIS is situated on a 120-acre campus on the Suffolk coast which has student residences, classrooms, sports and recreational facilities and its own watersports centre.
Boarding School Foundation Course
Age: 11–17
Start date: September, January or April
Duration: 1, 2 or 3 terms
Maximum class size: 15 students (average 10)
English language levels: From beginner
• Preparation for entry into boarding school.
• All students study core subjects of English and maths. Additional subjects include science, information and communication technologies (ICT), geography, world history, art, music, physical education, food technology and environmental studies.
• Students can be entered for the Cambridge ESOL English language examinations (Key English Test (KET), Preliminary English Test (PET), First Certificate in English (FCE), and the International English Language Testing System (IELTS)).
Two Year IGCSE Course
Age: 14–15 (in September)
Start date: September or January
Duration: 5 or 6 terms
Maximum class size: 15 students (average 10)
English language levels: From elementary
• All students study core IGCSE subjects of English (for speakers of other languages) and maths. Additional subjects include business studies, combined science, ICT, art and the student’s first language (if available at IGCSE).
• During the first year, the emphasis will be weighted towards improving English language in a ratio of approximately 60% English to 40% subjects. During the second year, this ratio will be reversed.
One Year IGCSE Course
Age: 15, 16 and 17 (in September)
Start date: September or January
Duration: 2 or 3 terms
Maximum class size: 15 students (average 10)
English language levels: Good intermediate
• All students study core IGCSE subjects of English (ESOL) and maths. Additional subjects include business studies, combined science, ICT, art and the student’s first language (if available at IGCSE).
Please note that Alexanders International School reserves the right to place a student in an alternative group after mock examinations in February should the necessary standards not be attained to pass IGCSEs in May/June.
Accommodation, sports and activities
Our Head of Boarding is responsible for the care and welfare of all students on campus. Each boarding house is run by a resident pastoral tutor. Assistant house staff ensure that students always have staff available to them and that appropriate supervision takes place. Facilities for recreation include: tennis, squash, football, sailing, badminton, basketball and table tennis.
Holiday courses
The School’s ‘English Plus’ courses, which run during the summer, Easter and half-term holidays, combine English language teaching with a variety of sports, excursions, activities and social programmes.
