
Established in 1567 this ancient boarding residence forms part of the large, successful and over-subscribed Ashby School which has International School status. The school has been awarded two Specialisms in Technology and Modern Foreign Languages, with a flourishing and extremely successful Sixth Form.
Ashby School is set at the edge of an attractive market town almost exactly in the Heart of England within easy access to motorway links. The school offers excellent learning facilities, incorporating the latest technology in the classroom environment. The school has invested in new buildings for Science, English, Art & Design and PE and has a very impressive new Sixth Form Centre.
School House, the boarding residence is set in its own pleasant grounds in an attractive Georgian House. The House is beautifully furnished and offers an attractive 'family' atmosphere. A £3 million award has also allowed the boarding residence to expand with additional individual and twin en-suite rooms. The new building incorporates an impressive number of recreational rooms for boarders, including a cinema room, sixth form kitchen and high specification lounges and computer suite.
Curriculum
There is a very wide range of A levels to choice from including applied A levels such as Engineering, CICSO (CCNA) Industry Qualification and ICT. Ashby School also offers Open University courses to suitable students, whilst continuing with their normal A level programme. Results for A level are consistently high with an excellent pass rate of over 99% and 50% at grades A*-B. GCSE results are also consistently above the national average with 78% of students passing at least 5 or more exams at A*-C grades (boarder’s results are usually even higher).
Extracurricular activities
Sporting and Recreational facilities include a Weights Room, Gym, a large Sports Hall, floodlit all-weather courts and a heated indoor swimming pool all within the immediate vicinity of the boarding residence. There are a number of team sports to choose from and boys have taken advantage of professional coaching in football, golf, tai chi and karate etc. There are a wide variety of recreational clubs, including music and drama. The D of E award is available to students as is a wide range of residential and cultural exchange programmes. The boarding residence also provides a whole host of excursions to boarders throughout the academic year.
Entry requirements
Entry is by interview not examination, with a supporting school report. Sixth Form applicants are also obliged to pass a minimum of 5 GCSEs.
