For over half a century, Bedstone has prepared young people to enter the outside world with well-developed personal skills, self confidenceand the finest academic qualifications within thier abilities. Today, Bedstone caters for young people between the ages fo 3 and 18 years in the Pre-Peparatory, Preparatory and Senior schools.

Set in the beautiful countryside of south Shropshire, bordering Herefordshire and Powys, the College is far from the distracting influences of urban life, and yet – for boarders – is within easy reach of all major cities and airports.

Academic life and facilities
Academic progress is closely monitored, and each individual scholar’s efforts and achievements are graded and discussed on a regular basis by the entire staff. There is a firm belief within the College that ‘expectationis everything’ and the best is expected from every scholar.

Bedstone Colle ge has all the expected and normal facilities associated with an independent boarding and day school.

Culture and sports
Cultural life at Bedstone is rich and varied. Seeds are sown within the curriculum and are nurtured through the breadth of extracurricular activity available.

A new music school and recording studio will be built in the academic year 2010/11.

The College’s sporting facilities include: rugby pitches, hockey pitches, tennis and netball courts, basketball courts, squash courts, a heated swimming pool, an athletics track, and field-event areas.

The sports centre provides for indoor volleyball, netball, five-a-side football, basketball, badminton and tennis, and, additionally, has indoor cricket nets.

Boarding
Single-sex boarding houses (for ages seven and above) are arranged according to the different stages of a child’s development. The boarding houses, cared for by resident houseparents – nearly all of whom have young families of their own – are comfortable, well equipped and homely. There is a mixture of small dormitories and study-bedrooms, depending upon the age of the scholars and the geography of the individual house. Each house has its own small kitchenette and common room with television and DVD, the use of which is carefully controlled.

Extracurricular activities
There is a full programme of activities within the College that extends into the weekends, where many interests can be pursued, some of which will become lifelong passions.

Спортивні об’єкти Коледжу включають в себе: поля для регбі, поля для хокею на траві, корти для тенісу та нетболу, баскетбольні майданчики, корти для сквошу, басейн з підігрівом, легкоатлетичну доріжку та ділянки для польових заходів. Спортивний центр дає можливість грати у волейбол, нетбол, міні-футбол (п’ять на п’ять), баскетбол, бадмінтон і теніс в приміщенні, і додатково має сітки для крикету в приміщенні.

Пансіонат
Дома пансіонату для учнів одної статі (від 7 років і старше) організовані відповідно до різних стадій розвитку дитини. Дома пансіонату, за якими доглядають постійно проживаючі «домашні батьки», майже всі з яких мають власну молоду родину, - зручні, добре обладнані та затишні. Наявне поєднання невеликих спалень та спалень для навчання, залежно від віку учнів та планування окремого будинку. Кожний будинок має свою власну маленьку кухоньку та загальну кімнату з телевізором та DVD-програвачем, використання яких уважно контролюється.

Діяльність поза розкладом
Є повна програма активностей всередині Коледжу, яка поширюється на вихідні дні, де можна реалізувати багато інтересів, певні з яких можуть стати захопленнями на все життя.

I joined Bedstone College in the sixth form, when I was 16 years old, to improve my English for one term. However, during that term I found that school life was so much more pleasant here than in Germany that I decided to stay for two years to finish my A-levels. In those two years I have achieved a lot. I am a College Prefect, the Head Chorister and have won several prizes.

Settling in was absolutely no problem, as scholars and teachers are welcoming and friendly and, as a boarder, you have your dorm mates around you all the time. At Bedstone everybody knows you and you know everybody, which gives you a sort of family feeling. At first it may seem hard to talk English all the time, but soon you start thinking in English – you will improve every day.

Learning in England is a lot easier than in Germany, because the classes are very small and the teaching methods much more efficient. To balance so many lessons we have sports on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays – tennis, rugby, squash, football, badminton, cricket and so on, depending on the time of year. We also have activities on Tuesdays and Thursdays, such as horse riding and mountain biking. I have started horse riding and enjoy it a lot.

There are also weekend activities such as paintballing, quad biking and shopping trips. Sixth-formers enjoy many privileges. We have our own facility where we can relax after lessons and watch TV. We are also taught leadership and teamwork, which helps for future life. I strongly recommend foreign students to improve their language skills by visiting a British boarding school and having this very special experience.

Now that I have finished all my exams I am very sad to leave Bedstone to move on to university in Germany, but I will never forget the time that I have spent in England or the good friends that I have made.

I started at Bedstone as a full boarder when I was an impressionable nine-year-old and what an impression Bedstone has made on me over the past seven years. During my time here I have had the opportunity to take part in every aspect of school life, something I feel I might have missed out on if I had gone to a larger school elsewhere: from taking the lead in three major school productions, representing the College in hockey, netball, swimming and athletics and taking trips abroad to extracurricular study and being invited to be a Prefect.

Apart from all that, Bedstone has been my second home to me, and as a full-time boarder this is important. With the support of my houseparents and the ‘Bedstone family’ ethos here, the school has supported me through the difficult times and has also been there to celebrate all my achievements too.

I have found who I really am and what I want to do for a career whilst I have been here, and it will be with immense sadness that I leave, but Bedstone has prepared me for the next step in my education. I am grateful to Bedstone for all that it has allowed me to do and I feel confident and ready to take on all the new challenges that lie before me at university. I shall be coming back to reunions to tell them all what I have been up to.
