Cheltenham Ladies' College

The atmosphere in College is one of lively purposefulness. Beautiful architecture houses academic lessons that foster curiosity and an overall learning experience that is tailored to individual needs. A very broad range of subject combinations are available to girls at GCSE, AS and A2-levels to provide a rich educational experience. College is also an IB World School and offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma to girls as an alternative to A-levels. Girls value the support, advice and encouragement that they receive from teachers to help them realise their true potential, and high standards are achieved. Virtually every girl goes on to higher education to an impressive range of universities including Cambridge, Oxford, Durham and LSE. The Parabola Arts Centre opened in summer 2009 and features a state-of-the-art 300-seat theatre and a number of teaching rooms.

Pastoral care
College girls say they feel well known and cared for. They regard their boarding houses as a home from home, and day girls are fully integrated
into all activities. A sense of teamwork is fostered by the many house events and outings that take place each term. The housemistress is a point of contact for girls, parents and tutors and they are supported in the care of the girls by several house staff. Girls move into sixth-form houses for IB, AS and A-levels: an excellent stepping stone for student life.

Extracurricular activities
Life outside the classroom is full of diverse opportunities. There are over 30 different sports on offer, and excellent facilities, which include an award-winning swimming pool, a multigym, tennis courts and two all-weather pitches. Horse riding, rowing and Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme expeditions are part of a busy outdoor pursuits programme, and easy access to Wales and the West Country is perfect for art, geography and biology fieldwork.
Music and drama play key roles in the development of self-confidence in girls at College, and highly professional productions, involving all age groups, emerge each year. Girls are regularly involved in performances (eg at the Edinburgh Festival), and the College’s location is perfect for taking advantage of local theatres and galleries in Cheltenham plus events like the annual Festivals of Literature, Music and Science. An extensive and eclectic range of over 80 clubs and societies are on offer, including Young Enterprise, chess and Bollywood dancing.

Entrance
Entry is via the College entrance examinations for 11+, 12+, 13+ and sixth form. A number of academic, art, day, music and sports scholarships
and other awards are made annually and applications for means-tested bursaries are welcome from girls whose parents genuinely require
some form of financial assistance in order to join the College. Further information about scholarships and bursaries can be obtained from the Registrar (registrar@cheltladiescollege.org).

It is our aim that the educational experience of College can be available to as many capable and enthusiastic girls who wish to join us as possible. Each year we offer a range of awards which we hope will attract talented girls to take up a place with us.

Scholarships
We offer a large number of merit-based awards each year. Scholarships are awarded for academic excellence and for talent and potential in music and art for girls joining us at 11+, 12+, 13+ and at Sixth Form. We also offer Sports Scholarships at 13+ entry and two Day Girl Awards at sixth-form entry.

In addition to Major Scholarships (worth up to 15% of fees), a number of Minor Scholarships and Exhibitions are awarded annually.

Parents of girls who are successful in attaining a scholarship may apply for further assistance, in the form of a means-tested bursary, if the reduced fee is still beyond their means. All such awards are offered at the discretion of the Principal, once a scholarship or exhibition has been gained.

Bursaries
We welcome applications from candidates who are likely to thrive at College and whose parents genuinely require some form of financial assistance to be able to join us. Girls need not attain a scholarship to be eligible to apply for means tested assistance and we particularly look for good all-round ability when awarding bursaries.

These awards are made from a bursary fund made possible by rigorous financial planning and donations through fundraising. Monies are limited and we make these awards after very careful consideration of circumstances. We particularly look for good all-round ability when making decisions.
