Dauntsey’s is a leading co-educational boarding and day school for 11- to 18-year-olds set in 150 acres of idyllic countryside on the northern edge of Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire.
Academic matters
The academic life of the School is vibrant, stimulating and energetic. The curriculum is broad and balanced, offering pupils the opportunity to study an extensive range of subjects. Examination results in recent years have been impressive. In 2011, the School celebrated excellent examination results including, for the second year running, exactly 100 A* grades for A-level. The 134 Upper Sixth pupils achieved a headline figure of 84.5% A*/A/B grades, and the Fifth Form IGCSE/GCSE candidates also shared in the success with over 60 pupils gaining at least seven A*/A grades.
School life
All pupils discover a breadth and depth of education that takes them beyond academic achievement. Drama, music, art and sport all flourish and the rural surroundings provide an ideal setting for many outdoor activities which include sailing on the School’s very own Tall Ship, the famous 56-foot gaff cutter, the Jolie Brise.
Boarding is thriving at Dauntsey’s. For the younger boarders, aged 11 to 14, home is The Manor, an attractive and spacious country house, close to the main school and set in 60 acres of woodland with its own nine-hole golf course and floodlit tennis courts.
A number of our boarding students (around 9% of the total pupil cohort) come from overseas, and they bring a richness and diversity to the Dauntsey’s community, which is proud of its multicultural links. Our international students come from all over the world, including Hong Kong, China, Australia, Africa, South America, the USA, Germany, Russia and Bhutan.
Entrance requirements
At all stages, admission to Dauntsey’s is via examination (usually in English and maths) and interview. Pupils can join Dauntsey’s aged 11, 13 or 16. Pupils whose first language is not English must demonstrate strong spoken and written English.

We reccommend that potential applicants and thier families attend on of our Open Days, which include a presentation by the Head Master and a tour of the school with a current pupil. Open Days offer an opportunity to see the school on a normal working day, to meet current pupils and to talk to teachers and admission staff. We hold two Open days a year, in May and October on a Saturday morning. Individual visits can be organised by contacting the Registrar, Mrs Jo Sagers.
