Headington School, Oxford
Headington School, girls boarding schools in OxfordshireThe school where individuals come first
Within walking distance of central Oxford and highly accessible from the M40 and A34, Headington School occupies a secluded site amongst 23 acres of green space and sports fields. The Prep School, a rambling Victorian villa set back from the road with its own playing fields and woodlands, is a stone’s throw away.

Flexibility and choice
Despite its well-earned position in the academic ‘first division’ and an impressive percentage of successful Oxbridge candidates, the School’s real strength lies in its commitment to understanding and catering for the needs of each individual pupil. From its flexible boarding options for girls aged nine and upwards – full, weekly, flexi and occasional boarding are all on offer – to its individualistic approach to sixth-form study, with more than 30 A-level subjects as well as the International Baccalaureate to choose from, Headington School is a place where each pupil is encouraged to develop her own skills and interests. Over 50 extracurricular activities take place each week, from extra art to Combined Cadet Force and from
debating to salsa dancing. Headington offers every girl the opportunity to discover her own strengths.

Breadth of opportunity
Around 70 girls play sports at county level and beyond, with seven county champion sides amongst Headington’s sports teams. Our fencing and equestrian teams are going from strength to strength against national competition, whilst Headington rowers represent England and Great Britain at the highest international level. Budding entrepreneurs compete in the school’s own Running Your Own Company scheme; others tackle a range of fundraising projects including World Challenge. Our musicians and drama students regularly head out on tour within the UK and beyond, whilst creativity thrives amongst our young artists in our purpose-built Art School. Whatever your daughter’s strengths and interests, Headington School will provide the environment, support and encouragement that she needs  to succeed.

The School’s ambitious ongoing development programme continues to deliver a range of top-class facilities, most recently including a floodlit Astroturf pitch and a state-of-the-art Music School, complete with recording and electronics studios. Our 260-seat professional theatre is home to our drama department and plays host to a range of travelling productions, and our Art School with mezzanine display area completes our arts complex. Other recent developments include an airy glass-faced dining hall, whilst new science labs, IT suites and refurbished boarding houses are testimony to the School’s commitment to providing the best opportunities for all of its pupils.

Entrance
Termly open days for the Prep School, Senior School and Sixth Form, plus a Sixth Form Options evening in October. Prospective pupils and their parents are welcome to visit the School by appointment at any time. Academic scholarships are awarded at 11+, 13+ and Sixth Form, as well as scholarships for girls showing exceptional ability or talent in art, music, sport or drama. All scholarships carry a fixed value. Means-tested bursaries of up to 100% of fees are also available, providing access for gifted girls who may otherwise have been unable to benefit from a Headington education.

Our daughter has been given every encouragement in her strengths, and guidance and assistance in areas of weakness. How can she fail to reach her potential with such care and in such an atmosphere?

Scholarships
Scholarships are awarded at 11+, 13+ and sixth-form entry to girls showing exceptional academic ability, or exceptional ability or promise in sports, art, music or drama. Parents may elect for their scholarships to be means-tested, or may opt for a fixed award of £300 per annum.
