Established in 1938, Hethersett Old Hall School is a friendly day and boarding school in Norfolk countryside, just minutes from Norwich city. The School is co-ed between ages 4 and 11, and the Senior School and Sixth Form are single sex for girls between ages 11 and 18. Boarding is also single sex, for girls aged 9 to 18.
Ethos
The small, close-knit school offers a happy, supportive environment in which each pupil can develop their academic, creative and practical skills.
Entrance requirements and results
The School welcomes pupils with a range of abilities who can follow the main curriculum taught to their age group. It offers scholarships, bursaries and discounts for HM Forces and clergy families. The School’s nurturing approach enables pupils to fulfil their academic potential without undue pressure. Excellent exam results are proof that the caring and individual approach works. Since 2007, 100% of our girls have gained places at their first choice universities.
International study options
The School’s ESOL department provides support and tuition to international pupils, helping them prepare for ESOL examinations and qualifications including the Cambridge Board PET, FCE and CAE, IELTS and SAT, plus GCSEs, AS- and A-levels. We can accept international pupils for periods as short as half a term.
Extracurricular activities
Activities include the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, Young Enterprise Scheme, drama productions, music concerts, sporting fixtures and an annual ski trip.
Facilities
The School’s main building is a Georgian house set in 16 acres of beautiful grounds; the School also has modern Pre-Prep and Junior departments and teaching blocks on site, housing ICT suites, science laboratories and an extensive art wing. Sports facilities include an indoor pool, sports hall, tennis courts and sports fields. Drama is performed in The Barn and there is a dedicated music block.
Boarding
The School welcomes UK and international boarders and offers full, weekly and flexi-boarding. Boarding staff are experienced and offer high-quality pastoral care. The small boarding community means that boarders receive plenty of attention, settle quickly and soon feel part of the ‘family’. Younger pupils share dorms with two or three girls whilst older students have their own bedrooms. All boarders make use of the School’s facilities and take part in a varied programme of organised activities in the evenings and at weekends.
