Facilities
Lime House School was founded in 1899, and is a fully independent co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 3–18. The School is situated on the fringe of the Lake District, eight miles from Carlisle. Our aim is simply to ensure that each pupil achieves his or her potential, both academically and socially, each child being treated individually. The pupils are cared for in a safe, rural environment, and every attempt is made to ensure that they develop confidence and self-esteem, but, essentially, that they are happy. All classes in the School are small, with no more than 20 pupils in any class. There are 90 boarders and 95 day pupils.

The Junior and Senior Schools
We follow the National Curriculum, with pupils being prepared for Key Stage 1 and 2 tests. All pupils are prepared for entry to the Senior School, ensuring continuity in the curriculum. Each pupil is offered a wide range of subjects for study to GCSE level. Most pupils enter the sixth form, where a wide range of A-level courses prepares them for university entrance, vocational courses or employment.
We offer a wide range of activities, including the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme, the Engineering Education Scheme and the Open University’s Young Applicants in Schools Scheme (YASS).

Visits and admissions
We welcome parents and their children for individual visits to meet the Headmaster and see the School.

Pastoral care
The care of boarders is in the hands of a dedicated care team. There is provision for medical care. Transport is provided to and from Manchester and Newcastle-upon-Tyne Airports, and also the nearby train station in Carlisle. Parents receive full reports twice yearly with an interim report at Easter and an immediate progress report upon request. The School regularly features in the top-ten performing schools in Cumbria for GCSE, A-level and value-added measures. The School’s dyslexic unit was inspected and registered by CReSTeD in 2011.
