The Stamford Endowed Schools are situated in one of the finest historic market towns in the heart of England; we aim to offer the very best education to boys and girls whom we have the privilege of teaching.
The Schools
Comprising Stamford Junior School, Stamford High School (girls) and Stamford School (boys), we provide continuity of education for boys and girls from the age of 2 to 18 – from excellent early-years learning right through to preparation for university entrance and the world of work. Many cultural, social and educational activities are shared with a common aim to enrich the lives of our pupils. With co-educational teaching in the junior years, and single-sex teaching in the more formative teenage years followed by mixed teaching in the sixth form, we offer an environment in which all pupils are able to flourish and are encouraged to reach their full potential, both academically and outside the classroom.
Facilities
Each School benefits from its own site. The Junior School and Nursery is set among fields and has joint use of a sports hall and swimming pool in addition to its own playing fields. The Stamford High School site has all the main facilities that you would expect from an 11–18 education for girls and includes a drama studio, music school, gymnasium, sports hall, floodlit artificial hockey pitch and indoor swimming pool. Stamford School is set in extensive playing fields and additionally has an Astroturf, sports hall, observatory, gymnasium, art and technology centre and outdoor swimming pool. Significant new building has seen the development of a new sixth-form centre and the new Research and Learning Centre, providing a state-of-the-art environment for independent study.
The pupils
The Stamford Endowed Schools benefit from the variety of backgrounds from which the pupils are drawn. Boarders come to us from across the world and are readily integrated with the day pupils, who come not only from the locality of Stamford, but from a wide catchment area. Although a significant number of our boarders come from British Service families, we also have students from Germany, Poland, China, Ukraine, Hong Kong, Italy and the USA. The Schools, from the age of 11, benefit from a county scholarship scheme and bursary, helping to achieve a broad social mix.
Breadth of choice in the curriculum
Through to the end of Key Stage 2, all pupils follow the National Curriculum with the addition of modern foreign language teaching and a good proportion of games. In the Senior Schools, there is a broad base to GCSE curriculum choice, and students are encouraged to maintain a breadth to their experience. At sixth-form level, the two Senior Schools teach their pupils in mixed classes. This has enabled us to offer 28 A-level subjects across a very broad range of subjects. This approach creates a very different atmosphere to our sixth-form teaching and prepares our students for the world beyond school.
Family-based boarding

The Schools have five boarding houses, which are split by age and gender. From the age of 8 until 11, pupils enter our co-educational junior boarding house, which is situated on the same site as the School. This is a family-run house and the husband-and-wife team are both teachers at the School.
At the age of 11, pupils move on to single-sex houses, again based on their respective sites, and are looked after by a staff who set out to create a family-type atmosphere. Both Senior Schools run senior houses where many of the pupils enjoy the benefit of single accommodation, which includes en-suite facilities.
Quality of provision
Ofsted Inspectors recently designated our boarding provision as ‘outstanding’. This is the highest grade achievable and means that the standard of service is of exceptionally high quality. The criteria were: helping children to be healthy; protecting children from harm or neglect and helping them to stay safe; helping children to achieve well and enjoy what they do; helping children make a positive contribution; achieving economic
wellbeing; and organisation.

‘Boarders receive excellent support from staff which is greatly enhanced by the warm and positive relationships which exist between them. The friendly and relaxed atmosphere within boarding is a significant feature of the school as a whole and enables boarders to feel well cared for and safe.’ (Ofsted Boarding Inspection)
Activities for all
The Schools are committed to a wide and broad-based activity programme. A number of activities take place during lunch times and after school. However, it is at the weekend that the Schools seek to provide an extended activity programme. On Saturday mornings, there are formally organised activities across the whole age range from the age of eight. Activities vary according to the pupil’s interest and available expertise. Recently, over 80 different activities have been offered and these have been as diverse as badminton, bridge, sailing, golf, and driving for 16-year-olds.
A caring society
Throughout the Schools, there is a strong pastoral system, which seeks to guide and direct our pupils through their school years and prepare them for their futures. A mixture of year heads, form teachers and house staff help nurture this care on an individual basis, which complements our formal structures in PSD (personal and social development), career and higher-education guidance.
There is a strong commitment to spiritual guidance within the Schools. Boarders in residence attend a chapel service each Sunday, led by the School Chaplain.
Transport
Stamford is conveniently situated near to many main transport routes. By road, the A1 leads to London and the North. There is a regular train service into London via Peterborough. Stansted, Heathrow, Luton and East Midlands International Airports are within easy travelling distance, some with direct rail links. Transport is available to Heathrow at the beginning and end of terms.

The unique setting and organisation of the Schools make it difficult to do justice to the excellence they provide across the whole spectrum of education. Please contact us for further information and allow us to answer your questions on an individual basis.
Our students leave us well-qualified and well-rounded men and women, ready and able to make the most of the next stage in their life.
