This all-through school accepts boarders from the age of nine and, in our opinion, it is well worth considering as an option for your son or daughter. Dollar Academy is recognised as one of the world’s leading schools; distinguished by its excellence in pastoral care, co-curricular provision and classroom teaching.

A real gem, this school is easy to reach (just a short flight from London, with airport pick-ups arranged for all); it is very highly commended by parents and has a very sound reputation amongst the UK’s top universities. There is an outstanding teaching team, led by Mr David Knapman (a former Deputy at Hampton), to make sure that every child achieves his or her best, and there are excellent facilities for boarders. This is a successful school filled with happy and very active children.

‘Fabulous art… strong drama club and masses of productions… Clubs for everything, oodles of choirs, orchestras, jazz bands, a raft of choice. D of E, work experience at home and abroad, plus ballroom dancing on Fridays. Over 70 options in total; terrific facilities.’ The Good Schools Guide 2012

‘The School has a reputation for nurturing rugby talent. Scotland internationalists John Barclay, Graeme Morrison and Rory Lawson are all recent former pupils.’ Scottish Rugby Union

‘My tutor encouraged me to try something new. I did and I love it. I’ve made new friends and I’m part of the team. I’m still a beginner, but that doesn’t matter here – Dollar gives everyone a chance to take part and compete.’ -New boarding pupil, aged 12

‘There are so many social events – paintballing, go-karting, camping, movie nights, dances, ceilidhs, balls, parties and formals. It’s nice to be able to have the chance to unwind.’ Senior Boarder

‘Dollar Academy provides pupils with a very high standard of educational experience.’ HMIe report

‘I made such close friends and I became far more independent. I feel boarding at Dollar was the best move I have ever made. It sounds a cliché, but I was really so happy in my house.’ Recent boarder

Dollar Academy has three boarding houses, which are beautifully decorated and furnished. Boarders usually share a room with one other, with single study-bedrooms for sixth formers. Quiet study space and computer suites are provided along with tutor-supervised, compulsory study time. For recreation, boarders have lounge areas, games/TV rooms, a kitchen/dining room and access to acres of sports fields, an on-site gymnasium, swimming pool, all-weather courts, private gardens, art studios and music practice rooms. All meals are cooked and served in the school dining hall and a team of domestic staff care for laundry and cleaning on-site.
