a vibrant and engaging atmosphere throughout.

Community
Our pupils are truly outstanding individuals – the extraordinary success of
this community is reflected in our confident, accomplished, courageous,
aspirant, compassionate and fun-loving young people. There is no doubt
that all of our pupils benefit from being part of an intellectually exciting and
culturally dynamic community. They have countless opportunities to explore
their interests and to develop their skills.

Curriculum
Pupils can choose to study the world-renowned International Baccalaureate
Diploma (IBDP), A-levels or BTEC at Sixth Form. In the Preparatory School, a
broad curriculum is delivered that supports the development of independent
learning, skills, curiosity and creativity, alongside subject specific rigour.
Rossall balances this superb extra- curricular provision with academic
rigour delivered through the IB and A Level programme. 2022 University
destinations include Oxbridge, LSE, Imperial and many more.

Facilities
The school is renowned for its Signature programmes in the fields of
Football, Golf, Performing Arts and the Piano. Each Signature programme
competes or performs at the top of their respective areas. The Golf Academy
is consistently ranked #1 in the UK (ISGA). The Football Academy students
regularly appear in ESFA and ISFA national semi-finals and finals, with the
girls taking home the national trophy in 2022 and 2023. Rossall is also proud
to be one of the only schools in the country with an on-site astronomy
centre. In addition, there are performance rooms for music, drama and
dance, including a 450-seater venue. Rossall also has an impressive Gothicstyle chapel, home to the internationally renowned school choir.

For younger pupils (aged 11-13) there is a dedicated junior boarding house
and for senior students (aged 14-18), there are eight senior boarding houses
(five boys and three girls houses). Each has a home-from-home family
atmosphere and a team of residential staff on hand, including houseparents,
deputy houseparents and a matron. All houses have a mix of nationalities, as
well as a high intake of British day pupils.

Entrance examinations and scholarships
Entrance and scholarship examinations are held in December (Year 12) and
January (Year 7 and 9) each year. The School offers exclusive competitive
discounts to military and clergy families.

“We are tremendously proud of our confident, creative and reflective boys and girls who routinely
achieve excellence by virtue of Rossall’s modern and progressive education and this enables them to
fulfil their potential and realise their aspirations.” – Mr Jeremy Quartermain.

Student Profile

Rossall School, German International Baccalaureate pupilName: Oliver Schwartz Year: Sixth form IB student/boarder Nationality: German  When a serious knee injury in his native Germany ended thoughts of a professional football career for Oliver Schwartz, he reached a crossroads in his life, which brought him to Rossall School.  A talented footballer, Oliver was already playing in the youth team of German Bundesliga club, Eintracht Frankfurt and had the world at his feet.  However, he freely admits that sport had dominated his life, to the detriment of academic study, until he came to Rossall where he found balance and discovered that he really could excel academically as well as on the sports field. Language and IB Study Oliver attended school in Heidelberg and joined Rossall in 2005.  His first year was spent learning English in the International Study Centre, before joining the main school Sixth Form to study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma.  And his first impressions were of a school with a great community spirit.  Says Oliver:  “I thought I would be homesick, leaving my friends in Germany but this place is so welcoming and there’s such a strong bond between pupils that it was never a problem. Teaching staff committed to pupils “If I hadn’t injured myself and finished my football career in Germany I may never have come here and that would have been a great loss.  Since joining the school I’ve realised that good education is far more important than sport alone.  Of course, there is a lot of sporting activity here but this is also a great institution for education and it’s a real benefit to have teachers who are genuinely interested in the pupils and help them to succeed, which is something I never experienced in Germany.  I now want to go on to achieve my IB Diploma to enable me to attend university in America, where I hope to study economics.”  Oliver has been so successful at Rossall that he has been appointed School Captain and is the first German to have held the position. He adds: “Becoming the first of my countrymen to become School Captain is a great honour.  It shows what the School can help people to achieve.    Rossall School, girl boarder case studyName: Janine Schofield Year: Middle school boarder (age 14) Nationality: British “Boarding at Rossall is like having one big sleepover with friends...” It was the warmth and friendliness of Rossall School that helped make the choice of school easier for middle school pupil, Janine Schofield.  Luckily, her parents made her part of the decision making process when choosing a school and three years on, she is delighted that her initial feelings were considered. Developing confidence At fourteen years old, Anchor House pupil, Janine is in her last year of middle school and is thinking of senior school, GCSE’s, Sixth Form and beyond.  She admits to being a little diffident when she first attended the school but boarding has given her much more confidence and a feeling of camaraderie that was missing previously from her school life. Service, friendship and a fuller life “Being at Rossall is like having one big sleepover with friends, which means a lot because I spend most of my time here.  What I also love about it here is that there is so much to do both in and out of school time, with sports, art and music, so it’s never boring.” With natural shyness overcome, Janine has blossomed academically and become involved in all aspects of school life, including enrolment in the school’s Combined Cadet Force, which has spurred her on to enter for the Duke of Edinburgh Award..  Nurturing talent The gifted youngster from Tarvin, near Chester is also developing as a musician and has reached grade 4 in both piano and clarinet.  This, combined with her achievements in Art, DT and Maths perhaps indicate a creative path for Janine. “I don’t really know what I want to do once I leave here after sixth Form.  I have lots of ideas. I’ve always wanted to be a vet but it’s still a little early to say what I will do once I leave school.”
