Queen Margaret’s Celebrates Appointment of Old Margaretian as Lady Justice of Appeal

Queen Margaret’s in Escrick, York is proud to announce the appointment of Mrs Justice Eleanor King (Eleanor Hamilton 1966 – 1973) as a Lady Justice of Appeal. The appointment, which is approved by the Queen on the advice of the Prime Minister and the Lord Chancellor, took place on 31 July; Mrs Justice King, who is presently a High Court Judge assigned to the Family Division, will take up her new post in The Court of Appeal in the autumn.

 

After leaving Queen Margaret’s, Mrs Justice King attended Hull University and was called to the Bar at Inner Temple in 1979 before becoming Queen’s Counsel in 1999. She was appointed Assistant Recorder in 1996–2000; Recorder in 2000–08; a Deputy High Court Judge, 2000–08 and appointed as a High Court in 2008.

 

From 1992-2011 she served as the Chairman of Governors at Queen Margaret’s. She has been a Member of Chapter, York University and a Fellow of International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers since 2004 and received a Hon. D Laws Hull in 2011.

 

Dame Eleanor is the mother of four daughters all of whom attended Queen Margaret’s and she remarks that her association with and interest in the School remains an important part of her life.
