Two Moreton Hall girlMoreton Hall Girls Shropshire Festival Thomas Cranmer Awards s qualified for the National Finals of the Thomas Cranmer Awards at this year’s annual Shropshire Festival of Verse and Prose, held at Moreton Hall school on October 12th and 13th. Katie Billing (aged 13) and Charlotte Ford (aged 14) will represent the Shropshire Festival and the Lichfield Diocese at the prestigious competition to be held in February in York.

The Shropshire Festival welcomed record numbers of children and young adults from throughout the region celebrating verse and prose in approximately forty competitive classes including public speaking, verse reading, poetry recitals, duologues, solo drama pieces, readings from the Book of Common Prayer and sight reading.

“We had tremendous support from many schools and colleges around the region,” explains organiser and Head of Spoken English at Moreton Hall, Merriel Halsall-Williams. “The standard was outstanding.” Moreton Hall students came away with an impressive twelve first place rankings in various classes including Tatyana Kahn, Eliza Kiel, Georgina Lang, Jasmine Buroby-Shenton, Gwyn Snow, Martha Stewart, Morgan Darcy Rees-Deacon, Emma Tilley and Roisin Ni Chulachain.
