Bromsgrove School Annual Eco day

Pupils from Bromsgrove Senior and Pre-Preparatory Schools enjoyed an active day of practical conservation activities in Catshill.

The School has been involved in enhancing the habitats of water voles for a number of years and the site in Catshill links to Sanders Park, where pupils have worked on a number of occasions.

The aim of the day was to construct some backwater ponds away from the main channel of Battlefield Brook for the water voles, whilst improving the flood defences on the stream.

Senior pupils spent the morning coppicing willow which was woven into a living fence. In the afternoon, the Pre-Prep pupils worked with the Senior pupils to plant over a hundred iris bulbs, which will provide a year round food supply for the water voles.

Group leader Mrs Holden said: “All tasks were undertaken with enthusiasm despite the copious amounts of mud. It was lovely to see our oldest and youngest pupils working together on such a valuable project.”
