A Bronze Medal for Laxton Junior Pupil at the IAPS National Finals

Eliza  and Mrs ClipstoneYear Five Laxton Junior School pupil Eliza Mardon was one of sixteen Under 9 girls across the country to qualify for The Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS) National Swimming Finals held on Saturday 6th May. The IAPS swimming competition is aimed nationally at all prep schools across the country. In the preliminary heats, Eliza’s time of 17.69 seconds was the 8th fastest time nationally in the 25m Butterfly race and secured her place in the IAPS Finals.

Eliza and Mrs Julie Clipstone, Head of Swimming attended the finals that were held at the K2 Centre in Crawley. The sixteen girls that qualified took part in one of two heats.

Eliza competed in Heat 1 and secured the second fastest time of 16.14 seconds. Although another girl beat her time in the second heat Eliza was still the third fastest to qualify for the final.

Eliza was successful in gaining a bronze medal, only narrowly missing a silver medal by .01 of a second.

Mrs Clipstone commented, ‘the times for second place were exceptionally close and we were extremely proud of Eliza gaining overall third place in a very tough completion’.
