burgess hill school for girls musicThe Burgess Hill School for Girls’ Double Reed Dazzlers were invited to play in a concert in aid of the Ruth Fund, at St Margaret’s Church, Ditchling on Saturday 14th May.

The concert consisted of a variety of different acts, including the superb Sussex Harmonisers, the wonderful Vivace and a Ditchling version of the Phantom of the Opera. It was another amazing experience for the girls to add to a collection of sights, sounds and memories.

The Dazzlers performed a range of pieces including excerpts from the Firework Music by Handel, a selection of Madrigals and The Mid Sussex Suite followed by Three More Villages which were composed especially for the girls by the accomplished oboe player, Robert Hinchliffe. The concert was a great success and was enjoyed by both audience and performers.

The Ruth Fund was set up in 2003 to enable a young Rwandan refugee named Ruth to have a better life. Because of the fund’s support, Ruth was able to go to Kingston University and now has a job with the Radisson group.

The Ruth fund was re-launched in 2007 to help Ruth’s four brothers who, at the time, were refugees in Kampala. Bernard has since gained a First Class Degree in French and IT, Barnabas is at college and the two youngest boys, Luke and Simon, are studying for their approaching GCSEs. The money has also been used for medical emergencies, once saving Simon’s life. To support the boys contact Sue Hancock on 01273 890298.
