A-level success for Ashford School

Ashford School are celebrating after more than half of all students achieved the grades needed for entry into the elite universities (A,B,B). 89% of students achieved the grades needed for their first or second choice university.

Among the highest achievements, 2 students achieved 4 A* grades and have places at Oxbridge, one student achieved 4 A’s and 1 A* and will be reading Economics and Statistics at UCL and a further two students received 2 A*’s and 2 A’s and will be attending the University of Bath and UCL.

The school’s Mathematics department excelled achieving 45% A* grade and 71% A grade in Mathematics and 37% A* grade and 74% A grade in Further Mathematics; an outstanding achievement.

Over a third of students achieved at least three or more A*/A grades with over two thirds achieving at least one A*/A. Those students in the top 25% of the national cohort (equivalent to the grammar schools) achieved 72% A*/A and 87% A*/B grades, placing them amongst the highest achieving pupils in the country.

Students in the second 25% of the national cohort achieved nearly half of grades at A*/A and over three quarters at A* – B. Students in the third 25% of the national cohort achieved 37% A*/A and nearly two thirds at A*-B and those in the fourth 25% achieved 28% A*/A and 44% at A*-B; an exceptional achievement.

Head of Ashford School, Mike Buchanan commented: “These are excellent results and we are extremely proud.  The results reflect hard work and commitment from both the students and our dedicated teachers who provide close individual care to all students.

“Initial indications are that almost all students have been accepted on to university/college courses of their choosing with a few entering clearing today and expected to be rapidly picked up by leading universities”.
