Extravagaza Car Journey30th June 2017, pupils at Dean Close Preparatory School celebrated the end of term with their annual extravaganza of dance, music and singing.

The opening number was a lively rendition of Walking on sunshine, sung by the Senior Choir, which had the audience singing, clapping and joining in with the actions. This was followed by an entertaining poem about a car journey performed by Nualla Benson, Florence Mckinnes and Henry Swan. They had everyone laughing as parents and friends were reminded of the trials and tribulations of travelling long journeys with young children.

A medley of exceptional music and dance performances followed. Oscar Jack aged just 13 performed Prelude no. 6 in B Minor and Prelude no.7 in F major, Allegro Scherzando, both of which he composed himself. The Choristers gave a faultless performance of Fly me to the moon and Senior Orchestra had the audience spellbound when they played Gymnopodie, accompanied by a recital of the Rainflower, performed by Lily Griffiths.

Extravaganza OscarJunior Choir stole everyone’s heart singing When I grow up from the musical Matilda which was followed by Rhapsody professionally played by Senior Strings alongside the Carducci Quartet.

The evening ended with an entertaining version of Everybody sung with great enthusiasm by Daphne Bennett, Valentina Alfonsi and Hannah Porter, aged 13, and supported by the school’s very accomplished Swing Band.

“They were fantastic!” enthused Mr Tim McVittie, Director of Music. “The Extravaganza is an opportunity to give parents just a glimpse of some of the wonderful activities the children have been getting up to throughout the year. Anyone could see they thoroughly enjoyed taking part. I am very proud of them all – they have worked really hard to present a fantastic show.”

There was not a single seat spare in the School’s 550 seat Bacon Theatre where over 230 pupils danced, played, sang and acted, making it an extravaganza they will be proud to remember.
