Abbots_Bromley_dance_performance_2014The Alkins School of Dance, ‘2014 Evening of Dance and Musical Theatre’ at Abbots Bromley School was a great success last week showcasing the talents of pupils from the age of 3 upwards.

The dancers from the Pre-Prep to Sixth Form performed a delightful and varied program including an adaptation of the third act of Sleeping Beauty – ‘Aurora’s Celebration’ this gave the classical dancers a chance to shine with glittering solos by five of the school’s top dancers.  Many fairy-tale characters came to life in this act including White Cat & Puss in Boots who were supported by the youngest ‘Kittens’ from the Prep School.

The second part of the evening was a ‘Musical Madness’ of excerpts from popular West End Musicals including Little Shop of Horrors,  Oliver, Guys and Dolls and much more. Several of the school’s talented pupils also sang beautiful duets from Rent and Wicked.

The final of the evening was an exciting collection of contemporary, tap, modern dance and jazz. Based on the Forces of Nature – Fire, Sunshine, Water, Thunder and Volcanoes all led to the dramatic climax of opposing dance styles creating forces and friction resulting in the power of earthquakes.

Mrs Victoria Musgrave, Executive Head commented afterwards: “The Alkins School of Dance productions are always of an extremely high standard and often of a professional quality. This year’s was no exception and indeed, I believe it to be one of the best ever and I would like to congratulate everyone involved.”
