Pupils at Abbots Bromley School recently undertook a short course in the basics of self- defence run by professionalAbbots Bromley martial arts coach, Dan Berry.

Mr. Berry, who runs Freestyle Martial Arts Academy in Lichfield and who has a son in the Prep School, taught pupils from Years 11 – 13 the skills necessary to fend off would-be attackers and gain confidence in putting up reasonable resistance against assault.

The course proved to be a big hit with the pupils who learned valuable self defence techniques whilst having fun at the same time.

Miss Sarah Sheldrick, PE teacher at Abbots Bromley School, was very impressed with the event, saying: “It was an enjoyable but extremely useful afternoon and we are very grateful to Dan for sparing us the time to demonstrate some very relevant aspects of self-defence. We are lucky to live in an oasis of peace in rural Staffordshire but, of course, the girls need to be aware of strategies to stay safe anywhere in the world.”
