Abbots_Bromley_HoodRobin Hood unexpectedly swapped his usual home of Sherwood for Needwood Forest this week for Abbots Bromley School and their production of HOOD.

Pupils in years 7-10 from Abbots Bromley School converted their theatre into a forest featuring full sized trees and Loxley Manor for their end of term production of “Hood”.  This alternative version of the traditional story was a little light hearted fun with music, drama and plenty of hissing, booing and cheering from the audience.

The play had all the traditional elements of the legendary story with Prince John, the evil Sheriff of Nottingham, the Merry Men and the Lady Marion, but also featured Prince John’s personal assistant Cassandra, a soothsayer and a Merry Man called Petunia.  The script was witty and there was plenty of visual humour

Director and History teacher, Sylvia Towell said “I am amazed at the talent shown by so many of the students, especially those who had only joined the school in September.  Many of the cast had not taken part a play before and yet they interacted with the audience with huge confidence and maturity.  To reach such a high standard of performance in just 12 weeks with limited rehearsal time was incredible and I am very proud of all the cast and back stage crew for such a professional performance”.

There were some outstanding performances from several of the young actresses and the cast all remarked how much they had enjoyed working with and getting to know girls from other year groups – something which helps develop the unique family that is Abbots Bromley School.
