Abbotsholme pupil Emily Bedwell has recently been awarded first runner up in a horror story competition with First Abbotsholme School national book competition winner News.

Emily Bedwell, aged 11 from Newcastle-under-Lyme, and a pupil at Abbotsholme School, entered the competition run by First News, a National weekly newspaper for young people, by writing a spine chilling story which has to be no longer than 500 words.

The competition was held in association with Gareth P Jones – the author – who was promoting his book Constable and Toop, a copy of which Emily won.

After reading Emily’s story, Gareth P Jones said, “This was a real contender – utterly terrifying and written with an astonishingly sophisticated turn of phrase.”

Emily’s story has been blown up into a poster so that her peers can go in to Abbotsholme’s fiction library to read it for themselves.
