9219-311002Professor Geoffrey Hosking, OBE, visited the College last Thursday to address a joint gathering of the Scott-Bradford Society and the Epsom College Economics and Enterprise Society.

A historian of Russia and the Soviet Union, Professor Hosking spoke to over 60 students in Main Hall on the subject of The History of Trust in Economics and Financial Services. He delivered an enthralling and informative lecture, explaining the history of economic systems and hypothesising about the reasons for the economic crash of 2007-8.

Geoffrey Hosking was chair of Russian History at the School of Slavonic and East European Studies (SSEES) at University College London from 1984 to 2007 and held a Leverhulme Research Professorship in Russian History at SSEES from 1999 to 2004. He was awarded an OBE last year for services to higher education and students.

It is hoped to welcome Professor Hosking back in the next academic year to speak about his main area of research, the history of Russia.
