The Middle School Production of ‘Kes' ran for two successful performances with a strong cast of 14 pupils from Aldenham School Kesyears 9 and 10.

The audience were taken on a journey of a day in Billy Casper's life: from his early morning paper round, to the tragic events in the evening with his violent half brother and selfish mother. Not to mention the trials of balancing school with training his beloved kestrel, Kes.

The cast confidently tackled and sustained the performance which lasted over an hour; an impressive feat for this group of young pupils, many of whom were on stage for the majority of this time, with some portraying a number of different roles.

Additionally, the pupils had to master believable Yorkshire accents, which they managed impressively and maintained throughout the production.

There were many challenges for this cast who were required to use a range of acting skills in order to create moments of humour, as well as an atmosphere of sensitivity and tenderness at other times.

Performances of note were given by Hartley Harris as Billy, who portrayed the victimised lead with conviction; Ben Kelly who gave a powerful performance as Jud; Rianna McQueen demonstrated a mature and accomplished performance as the kind Mrs Farthing and Darius Ostovar rose to the challenge of playing the cruel Headteacher and created a humorous yet frightening Mr Gryce.

The cast and crew worked superbly hard to create this successful production. There was clearly a solid Aldenham School kescommitment from all those involved.
