The All Hallows Year 8 Post Common Entrance (CE) programme got off to a tremendous start as pupils enjoyed a trip to the Houses of Parliament.

They were fortunate to be able to visit the House of Lords and the House of Commons and see debates in both houses.  This was followed by a workshop on law and debating as well as a talk given by our Member of Parliament David Warburton (MP for Somerton and Frome).

Having expected to see the House of Commons debating the HS2 train route, the children were blown away to arrive and watch first hand Theresa May vs Jeremy Corbyn on the G7 summit.

The Post-CE programme takes Year 8s through to the end of term and includes a day’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Inspiration workshop building rocket cars with the team behind the Bloodhound SCC – the 1000mph car; a day exploring science with the Pulse CSI Team and a three day creative design challenge (inspired by a trip to Thorpe Park) where pupils design their own theme park and construct a marble roller coaster. The children will also attend various workshops and educational talks by specialist speakers on important life topics such as drug awareness, recycling and sustainability (including reducing plastic usage), nutrition and healthy living, basic finance and advice on settling into senior schools.

To end the term, the pupils will embark on a three day camp before enjoying end of term celebrations back at school including the Summer Concert, the Leavers’ Reception and Prize Day.
