An insight into the world of crime for Bromsgrove School pupils

Bromsgrove School lecture from University of GloucestershirePupils at Bromsgrove School were given an insight into the world of organised crime with a visit from the University of Gloucestershire’s Principal Lecturer in Geography, Criminology and Sociology.

On Wednesday 14th September over 40 pupils enjoyed a lecture given by Dr Tim Hall on the geography of organised crime. Dr Hall discussed the links between organised crime and the global economy, concentrating on the characteristics, structure and location of organised crime. Case studies were used from around the world on various scales including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, China, Colombia, Afghanistan, British Columbia in Canada and the area around Naples in Italy. He also pointed out the links between organised crime and terrorism.

Pupil participation in the question and answer session was very good with pertinent points made about crime in the UK and the recent riots. The talk was described by attendees as informative, thought-provoking and topical.
