20160918 Charities Fair 054In mid-September, Lower Sixth Form representatives from all the boarding and day Houses at Oundle School put together a variety of games and stalls for the School’s annual Charities Fair.

Pupils chose a variety of charities to support, including Build Africa, Vital for Children, the Sick Children’s Trust and Wateraid. Camsight, and the local Air Ambulance were also represented, with a total of just under £1200 raised.

Head of Charities, Ian Clark commented, “The event provides an opportunity for fund and awareness raising and also helps new pupils to the School get a taste for philanthropic activities. Some stalls were just for fun (throwing sponges at teachers and an egg roulette game!) whilst others raised awareness of real issues.”

20160918 Charities Fair 024Pupil, Ed Samuelson (16) commented, “The atmosphere was brilliant at the charity event, which involved pupils and teachers alike. We were lucky to have such good weather. My House, Laundimer, raised about £150 for the Air Ambulance Northampton, which aims to provide a rapid response to medical or trauma emergencies.

Our stall was one of many which included a mixture of games, including a pin game, pin the fin on the shark, a photo booth and face painting. It was a very rewarding experience and with so much money being raised for a multitude of charities, I think that we all had a very successful afternoon. It was a really good bonding experience between the year groups.”

Pupil, Sophia Christianakis (16) added, “Our House raised money for Meningitis Research with a cupcake stall. People that came to our stall really enjoyed themselves and we enjoyed making people laugh at us whilst raising awareness about and money for an amazing charity.”

Ian concluded, “Last year, the School raised in excess of £50,000 for local, national and international charities with Fourth Form (Year 10) pupils also involved in the Big Give Philanthropy in schools programme. We look forward to building on this in 2016-2017, with many different charity initiatives already planned.”
