DSC_3845[1]Students from Stonyhurst College are celebrating GCSE level exam success. Mathematics results for the College were excellent, with half of the cohort earning grades 7-9 under the new system, equivalent to  A* or A grades.  Chemistry and Religious Studies results were also very good, with 64% and 60% respectively being awarded A* or A grades.  Overall, 88% of all subject results were grades A* to C.

Head Master John Browne said, “The GCSE years are very challenging for students. They are required to demonstrate a depth of knowledge across a wide breadth of subject areas. At Stonyhurst, we encourage students to be the best they can be, and I am delighted that this year, our students have excelled. I am very proud of their achievements and of the teaching staff who have encouraged them to realise their potential.”

Megan Murphy, this year’s top performing pupil, earned 10 A* grades (includes grade 8 in Mathematics) and will continue at Stonyhurst to study A levels in Mathematics, Sciences and Latin.

Martin Diamond earned 7 A*’s (includes grade 8 in Mathematics) and 3 A’s, as well as an A in additional Mathematics, and will continue at Stonyhurst to study Sciences and Mathematics at A Level.

Director of Studies Lorraine Wright said, “This is the first year of the new Mathematics grade system, and we are really pleased that Stonyhurst pupils have done so well. It is especially good news that so many of our year 11 pupils have decided to stay at Stonyhurst to continue their studies. We are delighted for them all.”
