Arkwright Scholarship awarded to King’s pupil

At a ceremony on 29 October 2010 held at the Institute of Engineering & Technology, London, lower sixth King’s pupil – Robert Allen, was awarded a prestigious Arkwright Scholarship for his outstanding work in design, engineering and technology.

The award was presented to him by Professor Sir John O'Reilly Dsc FREng FIET, Vice Chancellor, Cranfield University.

Sir John commented, ‘This years’ Arkwright Scholars are very special young people, they combine excellent academic performance at GCSE in Science, Engineering and Technology with a wide range of other achievements and contributions to society.’

Robert was selected following a rigorous selection process comprising an application, Arkwright Aptitude paper and interview at which Robert had to present his GCSE project work to a panel of interviewers and discuss his commitment to design, engineering and technology.

The Arkwright Trust is in its 20th year of awarding Scholarships. Arkwright supports young people during their A-level years by awarding £250 a year to assist the Scholar with the purchase of books and materials. Robert will now also carry the status of ‘Arkwright Scholar’ into university. The Design & Technology department at King’s will also receive £200 per year for the next two years.
