The first Alex Grose bursary has been awarded to former student Alex Lamb. Alex L was chosen for the award ashby school pianoby the Grose family for his commitment to the school’s music department.

Heather Grose, Alex’s mum, said: “Alex L was just the sort of person we were looking for to receive the money. He did not just turn up at school as required, but also gave something back. In his case, it was through music and the shows.”

During his four years at Ashby School, Alex L appeared in every concert and both school musicals, taking on a main role in the most recent production, ‘Our House’.

Alex L said: “I can’t help but feel gratitude towards the trustees as well as Alex’s family for receiving this award. I do remember being close to Alex and his friends, and it feels somewhat of an honour to have been given the award in his name.

“Ideally, I hope to go into musical composition once I graduate, maybe with a bit of acting on the side. The bursary will obviously help in funding tuition that will help to achieve this goal.”

Alex L is now studying Music at Edinburgh University.

The Alex Grose bursary will be awarded each year to a former Year 13 student who showed special dedication to, or determination in, school life.
