On Tuesday 25 June, Queen Margaret’s School in Escrick, York welcomed local school children from area schools to a fun day of learning during their annual Junior Science Challenge, which this year featured a James Bond theme.

With students visiting from Bootham Junior, Brackenfield, Cawood, Kirk Fenton and St Olave’s, the day was filled with top secret experiments and mysterious missions so each budding scientist could help 007 fulfil his next assignment. Some of these included treasure hunts, creating a secret escape routes, and building structures designed to aid in a quick get-away.

At the end of full day of experimenting, each team presented their research. Kirk Fenton’s team of the ‘Psycho-Circuits’ took top honours, with Brackenfield’s ‘Scorpions’ placing second and the ‘Magnetic Melons’ of Saint Olave’s rounding out the top three.

Queen Margaret’s annual Junior Science Challenge is just one of the many programmes the school offers to area primary and preparatory schools throughout the year. Others include the Junior School Sports Tournament, Rounders Tournament, and Performing Arts Day. Schools are also invited to a number of school-wide events throughout the year as well, including performances of Drama Productions.
