A new library has been opened at All Hallows, opening up a new world of reading and teaching resource.
Children’s author Jeremy Strong arrived to open the newly refurbished library to great excitement as pupils and staff gathered around to watch the ribbon being cut.
Jeremy is credited with writing over 100 children’s books and his story There’s A Viking In My Bed was made into a BBC children’s TV series and he has won several awards including the prestigious Children’s Book Award 1997 for The Hundred Mile an Hour Dog; the Manchester Book Award for his teen novel Stuff, and the Sheffield Book Award for Beware, Killer Tomatoes.
He then spent time chatting with different year groups and discussed how he was inspired to become an author. With over 3,000 books lining the new shelves, colourful furniture and 16 iPads, the staff and children are very proud and excited to use the new facility. As Jeremy said, every one of those books opens up a new world.
The school has also introduced the highly acclaimed Accelerated Reader system where pupils take online tests to determine their optimal reading level and quizzes to monitor their comprehension. Teachers and parents will be able to follow their progress in real time and offer support and encouragement accordingly.
