Aysgarth Students Play American Football

Aysgarth participated in its first ever American Football match at Woodham academy on Monday evening. The boys did really well, and for a first effort against older and more experienced boys, it was pretty impressive.

The 46-18 scoreline doesn’t fairly reflect how well we matched the more experienced ‘Warriors’. Our defence made lots of great plays, but the opposition had a knack of converting on their final attempts, and beating us deep. In the first half we scored our first ever TD, when Paddy Kinnaird ran underneath and caught a pass from Christ Totty to make it into the end zone. In the second half, we registered 2 interceptions from Totty and Kinnaird, and Totty and York picked up sacks. We also scored twice more through York and Wilkinson. We are looking forward on building on this, and improve for next term.

Aysgarth Sports Day 2014

What a busy day it was.  The day started with Harry Chaytor-Norris busking to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis, which was a great success and he managed to raise well over £100. The choir at the following concert was the largest one at Aysgarth to date. Everybody enjoyed the songs and music arranged by Matthew Atherton and the Music department.  The 300 guests then stayed on for speeches and presentations. The boys were presented their awards and book tokens for all their hard work during the term.  Sadly there were also a few farewells. Ted Haslam, John Dodd and Eileen Harrison-Topham are leaving the school at the end of term. Eileen received a bench for many years of service to the school. She will however continue her work with the OAA. Once this was finished the Maintenance crew cleared all the chairs in preparation of the redevelopment of the Reynolds Hall on Monday morning.

Alongside Sports day one of the class rooms was transformed into a ‘shop’ selling homemade jams, preserves, plants and other things in aid of charity. And let us not forget all the wonderful art made during Arts Week was on display in the Art and CDT rooms.

It was an overcast day, but luckily the rain held off, so all the races took place with exception of the hurdles. This event was cancelled due to the ground being too slippery. All field events were done during the week so that Sports Day was successful and finished on time with a picnic for parents. 5th form leavers had a gathering in a separate marquee to celebrate the end of common entrance exams. The maintenance crew were kept on their feet, as they had to clear up straight after Sports Day and prepare for a U11 county cricket match being held the next day. Oliver Stone was representing North Yorkshire in this match.
