Mr George Penlington, Academic Deputy Head, commented: “This is a splendid achievement. I am really pleased for our dedicated Year 11 students and our committed staff who between them have put in some serious work throughout the GCSE course. Today’s results are a great reward for all their efforts and will stand our students in strong stead for their future studies.

Donald Wilkinson, who joins Bearwood College as Headmaster in September, was in school today for the GCSE results: “We are delighted by the strength of this year’s GCSE results. Students have often performed well above their potential. I am very much looking forward to joining the College and to continuing its academic development.

Olly Young, one of the top scoring students with 9 As and 1 B said: “It’s fantastic, I’m really, really pleased with my results”. Mrs Young added, “I’m delighted, I’ve been so nervous! We are going to pick up Olly’s grandparents now and go out to lunch to celebrate. They are brilliant results; I’m so proud of him!”

One brilliant young artist, Aidan Sakakini achieved an amazing 100% in the AQA board ‘Art & Design’ GCSE. Stephen Abery, Head of Creative Arts said, “It’s been a pleasure teaching Aidan. He is clearly working well above GCSE level and is in a great position to continue developing his creative talents through his A-levels.” Aidan, who has benefitted from the influence of Richard Gould, Artist in Residence at Bearwood College, also achieved an A in photography.

Bearwood College ResultsOlivia Curry (3A*s, 4As, 2Bs, 1C), one of the College’s all-round students with significant involvement in the choir, the CCF drumming corps and horseriding activities, was relieved to collect her results: “I’m so happy I’m actually crying! I’m so glad I’ve got them all; I can’t believe it; I’m so pleased!” she said.

High achieving student, Greg Clarke, who was awarded 5 A* and 5 A grades commented: “My grades are what I was expecting really, but I am very pleased to have them in writing! Now I can relax; I’m going on holiday this evening so it will be a good way to celebrate. I’m looking forward to coming back to Bearwood in September to study Maths, Economics, Physics and Geography in the Sixth Form.

Pupils have an exciting range of A-Level subjects to choose from, with Economics, Psychology, Sociology and Photography being examples of the varied subjects Bearwood College’s Sixth Form has to offer alongside more traditional curriculum choices. Small class sizes guarantee individual attention and the Sierra Club is a purpose-built Sixth Form centre facility designed to promote independent study as well as offer a social space for relaxation. These elements contribute to the strength of Bearwood’s unique support system which can make all the difference to pupils managing the pressures of A-Level study. Whilst ensuring academic issues are thoroughly addressed, Bearwood also helps prepare well-rounded individuals, ready for university and life beyond.
