At the end of the Spring term, Year 6 pupils from Thorngrove School, Newbury visited Bedales School for a day of outdoor craft activities.
The children tried out blacksmithing, made homemade scones in the school’s bakehouse, and rode around the school grounds on the resident horse and cart. At the end of the day the visitors enjoyed eating their scones before heading home.
Commenting on the day, Keith Budge, Headmaster, Bedales Schools said: “Learning through doing is a big part of the Bedales education and we were very pleased to run Outdoor Work activities for the Thorngrove pupils. It was a great opportunity to share our overall approach to learning.”
Also, earlier in the term, over 30 children from Steep, Sheet and Buriton primary schools and Oakwood, Thomas’ (Fulham) and The Academy prep schools, visited Dunhurst, Bedales Junior School, for a ‘Science, History and The Big Outdoors’ event.
The theme was ‘survival’ and the children worked on ideas for how to survive using shelter, water and fire. Designing shelters, solar panels, learning how to make a fire and how to purify water were just a few of the activities the children took part in.
