The test, which is three and a half hours long, includes questions on algebra, combinatorics and geometry. The students will hear in the New Year if they have qualified for the next round.
During the Senior Mathematical Challenge, 11 students received commendation certificates for their scores, they were: Cicely Robinson (Gold), Tabatha Curry (Gold), William Hay (Silver), Claudia White (Silver), Luke Austen (Bronze), Oliver Bradley (Bronze), Jack Briggs (Bronze), Katrina Duncan (Bronze), Hugo Fell (Bronze), Sophia Lowes (Bronze), Ralph Woollcombe (Bronze).
The series of competitions, organised by the UK Mathematics Trust (UKMT), aim to advance the education of children and young people in mathematics. The UKMT organises national mathematics competitions and other mathematical enrichment activities for 11-18 year old UK school pupils. In the last academic year over 600,000 pupils from 4000 schools took part in the three individual challenges, the UK's biggest national maths competitions. Each challenge leads into a follow-on Olympiad round and mentoring schemes and summer schools help support high performing students with the aim of forming a team of six to represent the UK in the International Mathematical Olympiad.
Commenting on the results, Head of Maths at Bedales, Sally Dawson-Couper, said: “This is such an achievement, the results reward the hard-work the students have put in to prepare for these challenging tests in mathematics. It is such a good initiative to be part of and gives the students something else to aim for in addition to exams.”
