At the beginning of the Easter holidays a lucky handful of Y9 and Y10 boys got the chance to live out their dream and Bedford Schooltrain to be an astronaut as part of a physics department trip to the Euro Space Centre in Belgium.

During the 2 days the boys tried their hands at: fixing a satellite on the zero-gravity wall; learning how to walk on the moon; overcoming the effects of dizziness from spinning; carrying out basic tasks whilst within a human gyroscope; flying the space shuttle in an exact replica of its cockpit; and making and firing their own rockets!

With only a few slight transport-related hiccups the adventure was a roaring success, and greatly enjoyed by all 18 boys and 3 staff that went.

A photo blog about the trip plus a video of highlights will be on the new physics department eLearning site, accessible next year.
