A Thanksgiving Service was held in Cromer Parish Church on Thursday, 6th June, 2013, at which over 350 people Beeston Hallcame to pay their respects to a much-loved Teacher, Army PTI and Postman.

The Service was conducted by John Graveling and the Tribute was by Tony Webster, formerly Deputy Head at Beeston Hall School, West Runton.

Tony made emphasis of Cliff’s great enthusiasm and how much enjoyment he derived from others’ successes, were they pupils or adults he had helped over the years.

Cliff was also a Grenadier Guardsman in the fifties, a very talented golfer and a member of Pinewood Park Indoor Bowls Club at Bodham, as well as of The Marrams Bowls Club in Cromer, of which he also served as Captain. He was the Norfolk Singles Bowls Champion in 2001.

His wife, Esme, was formerly the Matron at Cromer Hospital.

Cliff was diagnosed with Parkinsons Disease in 2001, but met this debilitating disease with natural fortitude and, with Esme’s great help and support, managed the condition extremely well. Donations after the Service were for Parkinsons UK.

A unique attendance at the Service was of all four Beeston Headmasters since 1960:-

Martin Swindells, now living in retirement in Holt; John Elder, retired, living in Angus, Scotland; Innes MacAskill, currently Headmaster of Belhaven Hill School, Dunbar, Scotland; and present Head Robin Gainher, now in his fourth year at the School.
