Just before half term, four Year 8 sailors, Barnaby Gedney, Lorne Inglis, Edwin Agnew and Charles Hickman Beeston Hallrepresented Beeston in the Schools Sailing Regatta at the Olympic Sailing Venue, Weymouth. The two Beeston boats had to battle against 50 other schools and some very strong winds.

The day before only a third of the U11 Fleet completed the first race, and with Force 5-6 winds the boys did very well to complete the racing program as part of the U13 competition. Despite a a capsize each in the second race, both crews finished well up the fleet overall.

They should be incredibly proud of their efforts in what were extreme conditions, especially as they have done little sailing in the Laser boats that were used for the regatta.

The four boys are part of 16 pupils getting regular RYA sailing instruction every Wednesday through the Summer Term at the Norfolk Broads Yacht Club, Wroxham. More
