Prior’s Field pupils were celebrating unparalleled A-Level results today, with girls achieving a 76% A*-B result that represented a 13% increase over 2015, equalling last year’s 15% A* grades and delivering a 100% pass rate. Pupils taking the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), highly regarded by universities, all gained an A* or A.
Behind these excellent top-line results lie many stories of individual hopes and success. Head Girl, Kesney Boon, was one of those celebrating a superb EPQ result, along with an A* and two As that will take her to Bath to study Business. Fellow student and weekly boarder Rosalind Fomin – who gained full marks for her EPQ on the gender inequality within today’s engineering profession – flies to Canada tomorrow to begin an engineering degree. Saskia Lawrence balanced singing in a rock band and working in a local stables with achieving a top result of two A*s and two As, and will study
Geography at Durham.
Head Tracy Kirnig, who joined Prior’s Field in September 2015, congratulated each and every girl on their hard work and outcome: “We are so proud of all our girls. They have joined us at various stages in their education – at 11, 13 or 16 – and grasped the opportunities at Prior’s Field, achieving so much both in the classroom and beyond. We are a school focused on the development of unique individuals and the wide range of universities that our students will now go on to, and diversity of courses, reflects their huge array of individual talents, interests and future ambitions.
We have also been delighted this year by outstanding EPQ results, representing a minimum of 90 hours work on top of A-Levels and demanding intensive research, linked to their intended degree. We are seeing an increasing number of our girls rising to the challenge of this qualification.”
University destinations this year include Bath, Bristol, Durham, Leeds, Liverpool, The Royal Veterinary College and UCL to study degrees including neuroscience, architectural engineering, Arabic, Russian, Spanish, geography with volcanology and veterinary science.
