This year the Masterchef Grand Final at Bethany School featured only the boys! There were 4 Year 7’s all aged 12 
years taking part and they displayed finesse and a level of expertise not often found in someone 3 times their age!
The Task: To Design & make a two course lunch to be served in the VIP suite during the Wimbledon Tennis Tournament 2013.
Our professional judge was Josemanuel Azevedo who is head chef and co-owner at The Swan, Chapel Down Vineyard, Tenterden.
Jose was so impressed with the standards that he also took 4 recipes from the boys and will feature their dishes in the prestigious Swan restaurant at Chapel Down.
Jose has even promised to add each of the boys names and Bethany School against each of their items on the menu. The chosen dishes for the restaurant are:
Sam’s – Pan Fried Wild Pigeon Breast with a Red Onion & Port Reduction
Alex’s – Sea Bass with Salsa Verde with potato rosti
James’s – Rosemary Shortcake & Strawberry Eton Mess served on a Strawberry Coulis
Max’s – Salmon with a savoury breadcrumb crust with new potatoes & a green salad
The winner was Sam from Wittersham. His dishes comprised: Pan fried wild pigeon breast with a red onion & port reduction served with new potatoes and steamed baby carrots followed by English Strawberry Crumble & crème fraiche.
Food Technology was introduced in 2006 at Bethany School and has proved to be a popular subject broadening the curriculum.
The Food Technology room, designed by the very talented and inspirational Head of Food Technology Mrs Anne Wood, is always a hive of activity where a motivated group of pupils quickly develop their confidence and skills in this area through engaging in activities for all year groups.
As part of the activities that Bethany pupils can choose, Chef School is a popular choice, pupils have 50 minute sessions once a week for one term. During Chef School there are Bethany Masterchef heats and the winner of each round goes through to the next round.
