The Mountain Leader award is a nationally recognised award that shows that an individual is capable of leading a group into any of the mountainous regions of the United Kingdom.
Completing the award requires the candidate to have a substantial amount of personal and group experience travelling in this type of terrain and to demonstrate a high level of technical skills, such as poor visibility and night navigation, working on steep ground, emergency rope work, group management and environmental knowledge.
During the past two years, Mr Cooper has been preparing for the assessment phase of this award and I am happy to report that he successfully passed the assessment during half-term.
Apart from being a big step forward in his own professional development, this also provides me with a degree of peace of mind, as Mr Cooper can now take charge of D of E expeditions, if, for any reason, I am unable to take a trip. Mr Schooledge.
