Sixth Form students at Bishop’s Stortford College are celebrating today after receiving their 2023 A Level results. 111 Upper Sixth students sat their A Level exams this summer, with 79% achieving A* – B grades. Students studying STEM subjects, languages, and Classic Civilisation have received particularly high grades, with over 50% achieving A grade or above.

97% of Upper Sixth students who applied for university have been placed at a university of their choice, with top university destinations including Exeter, Reading, Loughborough, Durham, Bath, Birmingham and Warwick.

100% of students that have applied to study medicine have secured a place at their first choice university, with one medical student being awarded the Douglas Knock Memorial Fund Award; a special prize awarded to selected Stortfordians who leave the College to pursue a degree and training in medicine or a closely related field. Recipients of the award receive a £4000 bursary each year for a three-year period to support their studies.

Commenting on the 2023 A Level achievements, College Head, Kathy Crewe-Read said, “We know that academic qualifications are the gateway into many of the universities and careers our students will wish to enter. As such they are a prime focus for us at the College.”

“The dedication and resilience shown by our Upper Sixth students this year has been fantastic. We have seen exceptionally strong results across STEM subjects, Classics, and languages, which have seen high percentages of students achieve A grades or above.”

Crewe-Read continues, “We are aware that qualifications alone will not suffice for a life fully lived. Qualities, human qualities of decency and kindness are also a large part of the ticket to success in all fields. These values are formed at home and strengthened throughout the time at school with us. Together, qualifications and qualities are what an education for today and tomorrow must deliver, and we are proud that our Upper Sixth students are leaving us as a shining example of this.”
