Bishop's Stortford A Level Results 2015Bishop’s Stortford College students have again excelled with A Level results that defy the national downward trend in top grades with a 100% pass rate. 57% of students achieved A*/A grades and 82% A*-B. All 10 Oxbridge candidates achieved (and in many cases surpassed) the required grades to accept their places.

Bishop’s Stortford College Headmaster, Jeremy Gladwin, said, “I am extremely proud of the College’s 2015 A Level results; our pupils have risen to the challenge and achieved some outstanding grades. Once again 23% of our pupils gained the top A* grade and 23% achieving 2A* or more.  Notable successes were Art with 55%, Maths with 41% and History with 38% of pupils achieving A*.

Our pupils have triumphantly embraced the College’s all-round educational ethos by meeting a demanding academic curriculum alongside a busy extracurricular programme. My warmest congratulations to our Upper Sixth pupils for all their hard work. My thanks also go to the academic staff for their outstanding teaching and for supporting and encouraging them to realise their potential and build confidence for life.”

The College’s top performers were Sofia Weiss, Weilun Xu and Owen Crawford – all achieving 4A*. Weilun has fulfilled his offer to attend Imperial College, London to study Chemical Engineering and Owen will be accepting a place at Churchill College, Cambridge to study Medicine. Owen, a talented musician, has also been awarded an Organ Scholarship. Sofia was the College’s outstanding student as she also gained an A* in her EPQ.

Other top performers who all scored 3A* or more include Georgia Crump, Danielle Moon Sophie Morris, Taylor Weeks and Janice Wong.

All ten of Bishop’s Stortford College’s Oxbridge candidates have fulfilled or exceeded their offer requirements including:

Helena Bladen of Dane End – Experimental Psychology, Wadham, Oxford.

Roseanna Cawthray Stern from Dunmow – History, Merton College, Oxford. Roseanna has also been awarded a Choral Scholarship.

Rachel Chapman from Bishop’s Stortford, one of last year’s top performers, will take up her place at Christ’s College, Cambridge to study Psychological and Behavioural Sciences in October.

Melissa Craig of Stansted – St. Catherine’s Cambridge to study Human, Social and Political Science.

Georgia Crump from Bishop’s Stortford – St Anne’s Oxford to study English and French. Georgia also achieved an A* with 100% in her EPQ examination.

Daniel Mahoney of Clavering – History, Magdalen, Oxford.

Danielle Moon from Bishop’s Stortford – St. John’s Cambridge to study Human, Social and Political Science. Dani also gained an A* for her EPQ paper.

Sophie Morris from Furneaux Pelham – Worcester College, Oxford to study History.

Alastair Ward-Booth of Bishop’s Stortford – Gonville & Caius College Cambridge to study Law. Alastair is also the Councillor representing Silver Leys on Bishop’s Stortford Town Council and is Vice Chair of the Planning Committee.

Of the 11 pupils who took an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), 8 achieved an A* grade. This increasingly popular additional examination is designed to offer students the opportunity to explore a topic for which they have a particular passion; the course demands a high degree of independent study and is an ideal preparation for undergraduate study or high-level careers.
