A short film, Eye for an Eye, created by Year 9 pupils at Bishop’s Stortford College has been Highly Commended in the 10 Shot Film Awards 2023, narrowly missing out on the top spot in the Years 7 to 9 category.
A short film, Eye for an Eye, created by Year 9 pupils at Bishop’s Stortford College has been Highly Commended in the 10 Shot Film Awards 2023, narrowly missing out on the top spot in the Years 7 to 9 category.
The Young Film Academy, organisers of the 10 Shot Film Awards, are the UK’s leading provider of film education for young people aged 6 to 19, running One Day Film School workshops for pupils between Years 7 and 12. This year, 125 schools participated in workshops, with over 1,000 short films made.
The awards were independently judged by a panel, headed by Robin Kinsey, Vice Preside nt Marketing, Walt Disney Studios EMEA & UK – Marvel, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Studios, along with Ed Boase, Co-founder, Young Film Academy and the Young Film Academy Youth Panel.
Feedback from the panel on Eye for an Eye was really inspiring, with the judges saying “This Tarantino-esque revenge film is truly effective storytelling. It starts with a bang (literally!) and never slows down. The pace, energy and streamlined narrative make for a great watch. We particularly enjoyed the funeral scene, the quirky camera angles and the soundtrack. Well done!”
Commenting on the award, Oliver Murley, Teacher of English at Bishop’s Stortford College said “It is a great achievement for the boys to have their film highly commended by such a prestigious judging panel. They worked collaboratively on all aspects of the filmmaking process from screenwriting and fight choreography to camerawork and editing, so the award is testament to their dedication and great team work. Congratulations to all those involved!”
