Bishop’s Stortford College Rugby players have recently celebrated a number of high profile successes.

Last weekend, First XV player Cameron Boon represented England in the U17s match against France. Having previously played for Ireland, Cameron made his first outing for England in the Second Row. The largely local crowd got behind the French team adding to the pressure by whistling at anything the English side were awarded. The first half was very even, with both teams scoring 3 tries but at half time it was 22-19 to France.

Cameron, who put in a big shift against the heavier French pack played for 50 minutes. The 17 year old can be proud of his efforts.  Unfortunately England went on to let in a couple of late tries in the second half to lose the game 47-26.

A very memorable experience, Boon has learned an enormous amount and is determined to make sure he keeps working hard to earn these opportunities again.

As a Saracens Partnership School (players of all ages benefit from coaching clinics and masterclasses) pupils at Bishop’s Stortford College capitalise on strong ties with the Saracens School of Rugby and their Elite Player Development programme.  Zach Conley, Captain of the College’s 1st XV, has been playing in the Academy U18 League for the Saracens U18s alongside Cameron, and Upper Fifth pupil Jake Morris, has played for Saracens in the U16 squad at the Wellington Festival.

Representing the Lambs as part of The Independent Schools RFC, Sixth Former Didi Vidal-Adegun has just returned from the U18 National Lambs tour to Canada and Senior School pupil Greg Imber has played several representative fixtures for the Lambs National U16 squad.

Rugby is a major sport at Bishop’s Stortford College, with over 300 pupils playing throughout the school at all levels of ability.  Pupils’ training is supported by members of the PE department, academic staff with particular expertise and a dedicated team of sports coaches, including several ex-international players.
