A team of four Bishop’s Stortford College pupils have qualified for the semi-finals of the Student Investor Challenge.  The team, comprised of four boys, qualified as one of the top 500 teams out of 6414 competing nationally.

The Student Investor Challenge has three rounds and, using the Student Investor Challenge website, the team were given a virtual £100,000 and from this they had to create two investment portfolios. Following first round performance assessment, the College team has secured a place in the semi-finals.

For each week of the semi-finals, running from 20th February to 17th March, the boys will have to correctly predict the closing price of certain assets by the end of trading each Friday.  Points will be awarded according to how accurate their predictions are and how long the predictions are held.  The team’s score at the end of the semi-finals will be the sum of their best three weeks’ performances out of the four.

Shaun Murtagh-Howard, teacher of Business and Economics, remarked, “This semi-final competition will test the boys’ knowledge and academic ability to the full. We wish them luck trying to qualify for the finals and a chance at the first prize trip to New York.”
