Bishop’s Stortford Ex-Pupil Wins Oxford Scholarship

Bishop's_Stortford_Oxford_Scholarship_boyAndrew Smith, a former Bishop’s Stortford College pupils, has been awarded a prestigious Cobbe Scholarship by Somerville College, Oxford University in recognition of achieving a distinction in his first year Physics exams.

Andrew joined Bishop’s Stortford College for the Sixth Form, gaining straight A*s in Chemistry, Physics, Maths and Further Maths to secure his place at Oxford.

Commenting on Andrew’s scholarship award, Head of Sixth Form, Tim Borton, said: “Andrew settled in very quickly when he joined us, immersing himself in all aspects of College life. He clearly had considerable potential and we were delighted to see this flourishing during his time with us, not only gaining top A level results, but also achieving 100% in several of his Maths papers. Andrew is a dedicated scientist and it is good to see his promise being fulfilled in such spectacular fashion at Oxford. I’m sure this will be only the start for him, with further accolades to come in the future.”
