Bishop’s Stortford Festival Feast For All the Senses

Bishop's_Stortford_College_Robert_WinstonBishop's Storford_Festival_literature_logoThe line-up for the fifth Bishop’s Stortford College Festival of Literature has been announced – and it promises to satisfy all the senses.

Opening on Saturday 1st February 2014, the week-long Festival will feature restaurant critic and One Show food reporter, JAY RAYNER, politician turned writer MICHAEL PORTILLO, MasterChef 2013 semi-finalist SAIRA HAMILTON, professor, medical doctor and scientist ROBERT WINSTON, popular performance poet PAUL COOKSON, supernatural fantasy author JONATHAN STROUD, award winning illustrator and political cartoonist CHRIS RIDDELL, editor of The New Statesman JASON COWLEY, debut novelist JOANNA ROSSITER and phenomenal storyteller, word wrangler and crowd tamer DEBS NEWBOLD. The Festival finale on Friday 7th February will be a magical combination of live art, narration and music with author and illustrator of the ‘Katie’s Picture Show’ series JAMES MAYHEW accompanied by the Bishop’s Stortford College orchestra.

In addition, there will be the KIDS LIT QUIZ for teams from local schools and other groups to enter, plus five open afternoon events especially for local schools, including Puffin’s King of Comedy and author of the ‘Famous Bottom’ series JEREMY STRONG and SALLY GARDNER, the 2013 winner of the prestigious Carnegie Medal.

Tickets for all the Festival’s open events will be on sale from Wednesday 13th November 2013.

Internationally renowned author-illustrator Liz Pichon has devised this year’s theme – ‘Excellent excuses’ – with some pictures to help spark the imagination. Run in partnership with the Herts & Essex Observer, the popular pre-festival competition is open to all adults and children aged six years and over, who reside or attend school in the newspaper’s circulation area.
